Probox Systems Ltd

Elmbridge UK working with Probox to design, supply and install a paint finishing plant in their Manchester premises.

Probox Systems Ltd – Case Study

Probox are one of the UKs leading manufacturers of solid timber drawer boxes. Working with some of the brightest names in kitchen, bedroom and furniture design, Probox supply new and replacement drawers as well as cabinet fittings, drawer runners, inserts and more.

The Challenge:

Probox were initially considering opening a brand-new paint finishing plant in Buckinghamshire to support and enhance their existing operations. They approached Elmbridge to design, supply and install a workspace that would accommodate both manual hand spraying & automatic machine spraying. Initial discussions were held in June 2020 but, unfortunately, due to Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent pressures on planning permission, the acquisition of the premises fell through.

In early 2021, the team at Probox considered incorporating a robotic sprayer within their current premises and Elmbridge submitted plan to upgrade their existing setup.

Late 2021, it was all change again when Probox secured new premises in Manchester. The new facility had to enable installation underneath an existing mezzanine floor, requiring a little out-the-box thinking.

The Solution:

Throughout the turbulent time for Probox Systems Ltd, we advised and drew up plans to meet their varying requirements. Once the Manchester plant was secured in late 2021, we suggested several improvements to the existing structure which could improve operations and productivity. The site had to be worked around the steelwork of an existing mezzanine level meaning typical construction methods were not always possible. Our design incorporated double-skinned central walls between the rooms and pocket doors to allow for a flush design which removed the need for each steelwork upright to penetrate through the roof.

The Benefits:

Probox Systems Ltd have been able to vastly increase their output to support and supply the furniture industry. The new Manchester plant features enclosed manual spray booths, an enclosed flash-off room (accommodating the feed from automatic spray machine), an enclosed drying room, a bespoke paint-mix area and an automatic profile spray machine. The cutting-edge systems incorporated into the Manchester plant eliminate rework and speed up drying time to free operators to begin work on new projects.

Result:

Probox Systems Ltd. are delighted with their new Manchester plant. They appreciate the support that they received from Elmbridge during a turbulent time in their business operations and are now able to continue to upscale the work they do. The Manchester plant is a successful addition to operations.
